Just like the American hip hop industry took years to build up into the current multi billion dollar industry, so too is the African hip hop customs slowly but powerfully gaining grounds in the world arena, gratitude to some great African hip hop names such as Krotal, 2 face Idiba, Koppo, P-square and many more which I cant site here.

Krotal is a colossal figure in the Cameroonian hip hop music environment. He is most of the times documented as the Cameroonian version of Dr Dre, since he is busy leading the growth of a once dead Cameroon hip hop music genre.

But who actually is Krotal? Well, he is a Cameroonian singer-songwriter. Born on 02 October 1975 Krotal (Etoundi Onambélé Paul Edouard is his real name) is a precursor of hip-hop movement in Cameroon

Gifted with enormous musical talents, winning "best urban music composer, he has worked with groups Anonym (his group), and the Magma Fusion (collective groups including his own) that he participated in 1997 at the “Rencontres Musicales Yaoundé” (REMY), made the first part of the Senegalese group Positive Black Soul on tour at the time in Cameroon, and later in Dakar, Senegal, he participates in Dakar Rap Festin 'alongside the likes of Fabe, Koma, Daddy Nuttea, Supernatural ...

Four years later he is ready, supported by the association OsmoZ accompanying innovative art projects. Thanks to the structure of production and editing MAPAN Records meantime he created with other partners, Krotal released opus 16 titles, "Green Red Yellow" in November 2003 that shows the maturity and the experience of the artist. Album without concession award is doubly Cameroonians Music Awards (Album of the year, best direction and musical composition). Krotal does not mince words when he talks about the situation in his country and especially youth.

Rapping in the French language, and some times in his neighborhood Yaounde tongue, Krotal who was once a local Cameroonian performer has truly established to be a true leader in Cameroonian and African Hip Hop. He worked with Koppo to release his 1st album which was an immense hit in Cameroon and in France. Prior to that, he had been helping quite a number of artists to become popular. He helped AK SANG GRAVE to publish most their albums and has featured in some of their major hits.

Krotal is a very great music star with an exclusive rapping style which is loved by so many people, particularly Cameroonians. He has to a certain degree effectively made himself popular in the western world, and that is seen as a big plus for him, given the fact that most African hip hop stars can’t stand the very stiff American Hip hop compitition

Krotal, P-Square, And Many Other African Hip Hop Stars Should be Thanked For Promoting The African Hip Hop Culture

Krotal Now! But What Actually Has Been Happening With The African or Cameroon Hip Hop?

The African hip hop culture, Cameroon and Nigeria in particular is up and fast coming. Some pioneer artist such as Manhitoo and Negrissim' had broken new grounds in the early 90's, but African hip hop had to wait until the early 2000s for new stars such as P-square, Krotal, and Koppo to truly confirm to the world that Africa has a say as far as hip hop is concern.

Krotal, P-Square and 2 Face Idiba have broadly promoted the African culture through their hip hop music. These artists are fast becoming real internationally accepted hip hop icons, and are presently getting universal approval even as we speak.

Apart from Krotal, other hip hop stars from Cameroon include Les Nubians and Bams; who is a big female singer with a very individual approach to the hip hop genre. She now lives and promotes her music in Europe, France Precisely.

Some years back hip hop artists such as the 2 face Idiba, Krotal and the p- squares were not known! Very few African hip hop songs effectively made their way into the European and American markets. The African songs which effectively got into the western pop charts and thus broke the ice with a younger audience were often remixes or one-off collabos: played by Youssou N'dour & Neneh Cherry's 'Seven Seconds' which saw the Senegalese artist Youssou , singing a pop ballad.

One more song that also made way out of the African market was Wes' easy house tune 'Alane'. But nowadays all that has changed and we have a different picture. More and more African hip hop artist are making it into European charts and are loved by many Europeans and Americans. One could had never predict that artist like P- Square, Krotal 2 Face Idiba, Koppo just to name a few, would be having such great number of hits on Youtube and other video distribution channels.

To try to clarify why African hip hop has done so well in the western word, I would like to give thses theories as probable reasons:

1- The African society in Europe and America has increased enormously. The Africa to Europe - America Migration has been so high over the past few years due to the hardship in Africa.

When these Africans are migrating to Europe and America, they don't only take their despair; they go with some of their African culture. When traveling to Europe and America, a typical Cameroonian for example who loves Krotal, will make sure he or she has a Krotal music disk with him, or a P-square, or a koppo disk.

2- That could be one of the reasons why African hip hop is doing pretty well in the western world. One more reason is of cause the internet. Though African communication is poor, the western world is visiting Africa though the internet. It is pretty easy to watch a Cameroon music video on Youtube. All you need to do is use your keyboard and you computer screen, and in a few seconds, you will be watching a Krotal Video. And that is in fact the wonders of technology.

African hip hop is nearly there! With just a little bit of endeavor they will make it. So keep it up Krotal. And thanks for your soundtrack entitled Vert, jaune, rouge Mapane Records/Krotal. I really liked it so much. That is why I wrote and published this page.
